Vote Yes!
On Thursday, 2 May, you will have the opportunity to support our Neighbourhood Plan by voting ‘yes’, to pave the way the first of its kind in an urban part of Kent. A vote for ‘yes’ means:
Preserving historic architecture: Chatham has a rich legacy of historic buildings that deserve our pride and protection. This Plan ensures that buildings will be carefully restored and that new developments reflect our area’s architectural beauty – making soulless developments a thing of the past.
Protecting family housing: With an increasing number of one and two-bedroom flats being developed, it is important that we protect our family housing for future generations. This Plan empowers decision makers to refuse planning applications that will reduce the availability of family homes locally.
Quality affordable homes: Too often affordable housing is delivered as an afterthought. This Plan ensures that affordable housing is delivered to the same quality and is indistinguishable from market housing.
Greener public spaces: This Plan will be key to transforming our public spaces from endless seas of tarmac to enjoyable, biodiverse environments for our loved ones to thrive in.
It’s important to note that this Plan isn’t political and has received cross-party support throughout the process of creating it.
“I wholeheartedly support your plan to transform Luton, Shipwrights and The Brook“ – Dame Tracey Crouch DBE CBE (MP for Chatham and Aylesford)
“I hope all residents support the Neighbourhood Plan at the upcoming referendum and I look forward to continuing to work with you, in taking the plan from the page to the place.” – Cllr Vince Maple (Leader, Medway Council)
Our work is by no means finished and with the Plan submitted another chapter begins – delivering it. Your vote holds the key to putting this vital plan into place.
If you have received a poll card from Medway Council, this will indicate your eligibility to vote. It shows your nearest polling station and instructions to apply by postal vote if this is your preferred method. Please don’t forget to bring an accepted form of photo ID if you are voting at your polling station.
